I’ve just picked up my copy of Vogue India from Mumbai. On the cover are five gorgeous ‘dark skinned’ models, with a feature accompanying it inside. In an industry and culture obsessed with fair skin, this is a bold and commendable move by the magazine, which shows the growing progressive attitudes towards this issue in India. If only the same could be said for the Asian community in Britain where the old misconceptions that to ‘be fairer is to be superior’ are still alive and consequently a lucrative industry selling potentially harmful skin lightening creams continues to thrive.
